The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 impose significant duties and responsibilities on the Client who commissions any construction projects including the duty to appoint a Principal Designer and a Principal Contractor. Our services include the provision of project specific health and safety advice to the Project Team, particularly the Client and Principal Designer from the design phase through to project completion.

Considering the Client's responsibilities support is offered as follows:

  • Advice on the Client's responsibilities.
  • Checking that the Principal Designer and Principal Contractor have the capability and necessary skills, knowledge, training and experience to fulfil their duties.
  • Advice if appropriate on developing a project brief.
  • Assistance in ensuring the project team is provided with information about the existing site and structures (pre-construction information).
  • Advising on the suitability of proposed arrangements for managing health and safety throughout the project.
  • If appropriate completing an online notification of the project prior to commencement of the work.
  • Reviewing the contractor's construction phase health & safety proposals before work starts on site.
  • Advising on the provision of welfare facilities on site.
  • Agreeing the format and content of the Health & Safety File.

Support for the Principal Designer:

The duties of the Principal Designer are to plan, manage and monitor the co-ordination of the pre-construction phase, including any preparatory work carried out for the project. The proposal includes support for the principal designer in their duties to:

  • Assist the client in identifying, obtaining and collating the pre-construction information and provide it to designers, principal contractor and contractors.
  • Ensure that designers comply with their duties and co-operate with each other.
  • Liaise with the principal contractor for the duration of the appointment
  • Prepare the health and safety files.

Invoicing Schedule

Our fees are generally invoiced in stages:

  1. 30% upon notification of the project to HSE and assembly of pre-tender information
  2. 30% upon approval of the Construction Phase Plan at commencement of the construction phase of the project
  3. 40% upon review of the Health & Safety Files for the project, developed by the Principal Contractor and submitted upon completion of the project

Payment Terms

Payment terms are 30 days from invoice date.
